Geography

It was another busy and productive Wednesday in 4SS. Students are beginning to understand the routines of our BYOD class, starting with the opportunity for them to come into class from 8.45am to quietly go over their homework, work on a maths app or edit work on the iPads. Just a reminder that iPads  are to be stored in the classroom filing cabinet when students arrive at school and are not to be used in the playground.

This term in Geography, students are beginning to learn about the countries beyond Australia. We have used Google Earth to look at Australia’s location relative to other continents. Features on a map are being discussed and students are learning to use and create a legend of landmarks with a focus on Africa and South America. The app barefoot atlas (pictured above) has been a wonderful resource and I recommend students to further explore the world using these and any other similar apps.

Most Wednesday afternoons 4SS has been doing an Art based activity. This week we attempted to finish a drawing that uses the words from a text to create a picture or symbol from the text. This task enabled the students to practise writing techniques and fine motor skills. (Abby’s work “Green Eggs and Ham” is pictured above)

Lastly, here is very useful link for those who are new to iPads.
