Homework, parent sessions and blogging!

It’s hard to believe that another week has passed so quickly!!

This week Jason and Chantelle held their Parent Information Session.    There were lots of questions – mainly to do with how the students were actually working and what they were doing in class.    There was also some concern that children might be getting away with using games/apps on the iPad at times when they weren’t meant to be.

As I understand it, the teachers are doing exactly the same thing as they would be doing in a traditional class with students who are off task.  They are being given a warning and then there is a consequence.    The only difference between the two types of learning environments is that the iPads are often propped up in a vertical fashion, making it easier for them to go unnoticed.  I’m sure that as time passes and the children get more involved in their work and as the novelty of having devices passes, that this temptation will also become easier to resist.

I am wondering if parents would be interested in having a couple of session where I allow you to work beside your students completing some tasks that would give you an idea of the reality of what the students are doing in class.  I’m sending out an email about this and hoping people will let me know what is happening.

We are also thinking of getting the students to blog soon – to add to the perspectives that Chantelle and I are presenting in this blog format.
