Rowan of Rin Continues – Minecraft!

We had our second lesson with 4SS yesterday with the students continuing to build their settings as per the developing story they have been reading as a class. This lesson was firmly focussed on collaborative building and ensuring that the setting with the village square and all the buildings and features – was completed ready for other elements to be added that were appearing with the development of the plot.

Jason and I were also wanting to make sure that each student had their book and quill ready for their chapter summaries to be written.  So what he and I did was that we visited each village, walking around and tossing a book and quill to each of the students. They had to then pick it up and add it to their chest.   They also were asked to add a sign to their chest so that we could tell who owned which chest as we were walking around.  It also means that other students can identify which chest belongs to who.

It was another great lesson with the students clearly enjoying the collaborative and creative work going on.  It was interesting to see that the novelty was already wearing off and the children were settling in to the task they had been given.
