Comic Versions of Character Perspective

The students are still immersed in the learning unit of Rowan of Rin and undoubtedly benefiting from the engagement and deep connections that are being made.

Above are a couple of pages from a comic that the children are working on to show events from Rowan’s perspective.  This has involved travelling through their created world in Minecraft, taking screen shots of places at which key events have occurred and then adding them to their comic in Book Creator.  They need to add speech bubbles representing the character’s thoughts and speech and captions explaining what is happening.

It is useful to reflect on the assessment task for this unit which is to explain how the author represents the main character in an important event.   For some children, this activity (or indeed the range of activities available throughout this unit) is making this assessment task so much more achievable.  It is serving to bring the story and characters alive.    Mr Schutz is observing how engaged the children are and how this engagement is translating to quality comprehension and writing.
