We have a wealth of talent in our parent body. If we are just talking about Media and Digital Technologies – there are film experts, IT experts, coding experts, tinkerers, makers and 3D printing fans. Our school, then, is in a unique position to design and provide an extra-curricular program that might really enable our children to reach great heights.
And I don’t mean for one minute that we should try to turn every child into a programmer….not at all. I do think however, that young people who have an understanding of how computers work are going to be at an advantage in their future lives. Regardless of what they decide to do, the use of technology is going to almost certainly play a part and those that have developed a sound understanding and appreciation of computational thinking are going to be able to value-add to almost anything they do.
