Stop-Motion for Junior Primary: Connecting Readers to Character

Mrs Fisher’s class in Yr 1 will be using stop-motion animation next term as part of their character study in English.  After reading ‘The Very Blue Thingamajig’, the students will be planning and making their very own version of this character and writing a character description.   With their play dough creature, they will then make a stop-motion animation which will include audio and then we  will insert the creations into into our iBook Creator.  We will use iMotionHD to create the animation, iMovie to add audio and Book Creator to compile and share the creations.

In addition to being an engaging experience, this activity will enhance the children’s ability to describe their characters and understand how an author represents character in order to tell an effective story. Interestingly,  the children will also be meeting outcomes within Media Arts – one of the newer curriculum areas of the Australian Curriculum.
