This week we held the first week of our second round of our Young Innovators Program. It got off to a very smooth start with 7 workshops over the two days involving 110 students. The flyer which promoted the workshops is below and a further explanation of how each one progressed then follows.
Electronics
This group are working with one of our coaches, Aaron, to delve into the world of electronics by designing and building their own printed circuit board.
Kerbel Space Program
This group of very keen students are working with our school technician, Adam, to learn how to use the educational version of Kerbel Space Station to design, build and launch their own space craft.
Young Entrepreneurs
This group of students are working to meet the 2016 KidPreneur Challenge by starting their own business.
Junior Coders
These young students in Years 2 and 3 are learning some computational thinking skills and putting them to practice at some hands-on robotics tasks. This week they started with a tutorial on Scratch Jn and then broke into 3 groups with Dash robotics, some movement activities and lego mirror building.
Coding – Design a Digital Game
These students are working with Emily to design and create a digital game – Scratch is the initial tool being used.
TV Show Making
Students in Yrs 4-6 are working with Ty to learn the skills required to put together their own TV show.
Arduino
The students started with a Makey-Makey circuitry challenge making an ‘Operation’ style game that connected to Scratch for digital responses to the physical movements within the game.
We have some Education students from QUT helping us out on during this first round.
