Where will Digital Technologies Take You?

We have 6 groups going through to the Judging Event at UQ this Saturday and it is interesting to think about the alignment between the aims of this event and the new Digital Technologies Curriculum.   The figure below shows the relationship between key ideas and Technologies subjects:

At the heart of this curriculum is the creation of digital solutions.   This curriculum is designed such that by Year 5, students are equipped with the mindset, toolset and skill-set to confidently go about identifying problems and then creating a possible solution for them.

The Young ICT Explorer Competition is perfectly aligned with this.  With its theme of “Where will Digital Technologies Take You?”,  Year 3 children and older work in groups using project based learning principles to identify problems and to set about solving them.  They document their learning as they go and capture moments of clarity, failure, learning and insight – in order to show the judges their journey.

This Saturday is the Queensland Judging Event at UQ.  It’s also the day of our annual Spring Fair!   We still have four groups going to the Judging Event and two groups submitting video entries.  We wish them all the best!
