Visual Programming – Tools

After a year of trialling aspects of the Digital Technologies Curriculum,  we are in a position to decide on a few tools that enable exploration of this curriculum – the image below depicts those that can support the visual programming content descriptors in our context.

Although there are many ‘unplugged’ options for exploring computational thinking, we have found that the use of robotics devices is very engaging and motivating for students and that their use also benefits those who like to physically connect with concepts. Additionally, as we are a school that is exploring partnering Digital Technologies with other curriculum areas, we have seen that the use of these robotic devices can bring other areas alive, enabling connections to reinforce concepts and alowing differentiation for those that need support or those that can go further.
