At this time of the year, many of our students are working hard to revise basic number facts and tables in order to set themselves up for the year ahead. Our teachers also, are working to encourage students to apply themselves in these areas.
There are a number of great tools available online or as iPad apps and these are two of them:
1. Topmarks – a UK based site is a great one with a diverse range of activities. One of the best ones is “Hit the Button”. This allows students to practise basic number facts and suits children in Yr 2 up to Year 5. When I watched some children in Mrs Hoffman’s class working on this activity, they were working to beat the clock and improve their score each time. They were even graphing the results using ‘Numbers’ on their iPads!
2. Squeebles is an app that supports the development of tables knowledge and allows multiple user logins Although it costs $6, when you are using this with two or three children, it is well worth the cost. There are a number of different modes which presents the tables in different ways.
