QLD Women’s Week

The Oakleigh P & C applied for and won a grant to hold some events during QLD Women’s Week in 2017.

We are thrilled with the line-up we have organised for the week with the headline event being Dr Catherine Ball on the first day of the week.  Hearing about the drone industry and Catherine’s pathway within this industry is going to provide our community with a fascinating insight into the rapidly evolving industry.  Catherine is one of three people behind ‘SheFlies’ , a recently launched project offering a “comprehensive, multidisciplinary program that build confidence in girls and women to engage in the wonderful of flying drones!’

As part of this first day, we will invite our Yr 6 girls along to an afternoon discussion with Catherine about career pathways and we are hoping that their parents will attend also.    On Tuesday, we will host some inspirational female leaders to discuss various aspects of leadership with our Yr 5 and 6 students.   On Thursday, we will host a panel of some of the same people plus additional others to discuss with parents how we can best support our daughters to consider leadership.

Additionally, in all of our classrooms during the week, we are hoping to host some question and answer sessions with a female parent leader – on some aspect of resilience, organisation,  getting along, persistence or confidence.
