Coding a Dance – Supporting Swift Playgrounds

Within the Young Innovator Program, we have been running a 6 week course with our older students in SwiftPlaygrounds – the app that is used to support understandings in these years before the use of Swift Coding.   After 4 weeks of learning, which was supported by the materials in this iTunesU course,  the students engaged in a dance activity this week.  The repetitive nature of a song and an accompanying dance make it an excellent platform to do some coding!

The students had to ensure they included the key components they had looked at during the last 4 weeks:

  • commands
  • loops
  • functions
  • conditionals

This was a great activity, appealing to both the girls and boys in the group, enabling them to collaboratively consolidate understandings of the nature of the components, but also the context in which each works well.
