STEAM@OSS

As a community we have been working towards a vision for what learning can look like when it is inquiry led, student centred with a real world context.  After seeking our community’s feedback and working with our staff during 2017, we have designed a vision which we know will support us to strive towards reaching our school vision.  This vision inspires us to work within a  STEAM platform, (rather than STEM) as we acknowledge the need to support the development of innovators, leaders and learners of the 21st Century -with the inclusion of the ARTS being critical for us to successfully do this.   The ARTS has an essential place in all creative inquiry and can support the development of students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem solving, embrace collaboration  and work through a creative process. We also acknowledge the place of the Arts in the human experience, enhancing and strengthening our lives.

During our pupil free days, our staff continued their work in the design of learning which supports our STEAM vision.

Questions we are continuing to ask ourselves include:

  • What does inquiry look like when it is student centred and real and relevant?
  • How does our design framework scaffold inquiry?
  • What thinking frames will be relevant when we are working like a scientist or a mathematician?
  • What connections can we find in curriculum that enable us to design learning?

We look forward to sharing more news as we progress.
