Digital Citizenship

Today we started the trial of our 8 week long Digital Citizenship Program.

We have always acknowledged that it is imperative that with the use of digital technologies, the implementation of a digital citizenship program occurs.   As part of this trial in Year 4, we will be implementing a program across all of Year 4.   We expect this  to then feed into the development and implementation of a school wide program.   For more details of each class, please go to the ‘Digital Citizenship’ link on this blog. It would be wonderful if we had parents discussing the concepts with their children as the program progresses and then giving us feedback on it at the end.

Today I worked with 4SF as the first class.  The first lesson is described here.

We are using a range of resources including ACARA, a purchased digital citizenship program and some excellent resources from Common Sense Media, which is the where the above video came from.

CaptureIt might be helpful for you to discuss the responsibilities your child feels he/she has in an off-line capacity first such as doing jobs around the house, brushing their teeth, not littering in a local park and where these fit into the rings of responsibilities.

Once the children understand these concepts, it is easier for us to move on to discussing responsibilities in an online capacity.
